DESCRIPTION
Processing is a flexible software sketchbook and a language for learning how to code within the context of the visual arts. Since 2001, Processing has promoted software literacy within the visual arts and visual literacy within technology. There are tens of thousands of students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists who use Processing for learning and prototyping.
YEAR
Processing is an open source programming language created specifically for electronic art and visual interaction design, with the goal of aiding the teaching of programming through visualization and the expression of digital creativity on top of that. In 2001, Casey Reas and Benjamin Fry of the MIT Media Lab launched this project. The Processing language is based on the Java language, but uses a simplified syntax and graphical programming model. There is also P5.js, which is based on Processing but uses Javascript as a framework.
